The name ProfTheory was given to me by ka2nax, yes he is an Amateur Radio operator, back around the early 80's. The reason for giving me that name was that when asked a question the answer often started with "Well in theory...". Also he found when looking for a detailed explanation I would answer simply it could be done. Or when looking for a simple yes or no I would give a long drawn out answer giving the conditions that would have to be met in order for it to work, or reasons why it would not.
Some of my background
I graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in the Catskill Mt's. with a BT in Network Administrator. For those of you in NYC I'm in upstate NY. For the rest of you wondering about the previous remark it should be noted that when listening to NYC radio/TV stations they refer to anywhere north of the city as being UPSTATE. I am also a licensed Amateur Radio operator and I learned much about computer networking theory while using packet radio. For several years I was the SysOp of the k2put node/digi. My interests in radio include scanner and SWL and CB. My interest in computers started at an early age. I was first able to do programming in high school (late 70's) using BASIC. Later on I bought my first computer a Times/Sinclair 1000 then the Radio Shack MC-10. It continued with a Tandy 1000EX, Tandy 1000TL (still have it). After those pre-built systems I have been assembling my own - except Dell Inspiron 8600.
